About Ross Couper & Tom Oakes / Talisk

A cracker of a double bill featuring a set each from duo Ross Couper and Tom Oakes and Talisk…

Ross Couper from Shetland and Tom Oakes from Devon are a fiddle and guitar duo deeply rooted in the traditions of Scotland and Ireland but with a vital modernity that chronicles their many musical journeys so far. Expect a highly dynamic mixture of power and fragility combined with warmth and humour. Ross’ explosive fiddle playing lies at the heart of some of the biggest acts on the Scottish folk scene including the mighty Peatbog Faeries. Tom Oakes is a multi award winning guitarist and flautist who as well as being a founder member of the genre defying Auvo Quartet is also known for his work as a solo flautist. Their eponymous album has recently been released to considerable acclaim. ‘Gleaming with musicianship. Exquisite’ – **** The Guardian

Nominees of the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Horizon Award, and winners of the 2015 Young Folk Award, Talisk are one of the fastest rising bands on the UK folk scene. Mohsen Amini (concertina), Hayley Keenan (fiddle) and Graeme Armstrong (guitar) create a captivating, energetic and dynamic sound that, in just a couple of years, has earned them multiple award wins, nationwide media praise, and a busy touring schedule. Atop their collective titles, Amini was the 2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, adding to a trophy cabinet that far belies their years.
