Greig Taylor launches his first solo album tonight. Greig is the former singer/songwriter of Stirling band GT’s Boos Band, who two years ago featured on BBC Four television documentary UK’s Best Part Time Band with Midge Ure as the bands mentor.
Since then Greig has performed with various projects, including the original Gary Moore Band on their 2017 Scottish tour dates and at festivals and venues throughout the UK and Europe such as Glasgow’s O2 ABC and Belladrum Festival. This is his third studio album, but his first as a solo artist, and has been mastered at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London by renowned mastering engineer Miles Showell (who has worked his magic on many of the world’s best-known artists including Amy Winehouse, Abba and Queen to name just a few).
A ‘Songbook’ style album, it follows on from the recent success Greig had with his charity single in aid of the Scottish Association of Mental Health; a spine-tingling cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark, recorded at the Tolbooth studio, which aimed to raise awareness around mental health and the positivity of music in relation to it.
The album follows a similar theme, with Greig and his eight-piece band re-imagining hits by a host of well-known artists, including Joe Cocker, Depeche Mode, Neil Diamond, Chris Rea, Paul Carrack and 80’s rockers Foreigner, as well as covering songs by such diverse artists as Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson and Canadian country artist Johnny Reid. A real eclectic mix of classics and more obscure songs which he has reworked in the studio with his first-class band. A ‘Songbook’ for the ages, performed in full at the Tolbooth. Not to be missed!
