About TopDay 2018

TopDay is the annual family arts festival co-ordinated by Stirling Council, Historic Environment Scotland, The Smith Art Gallery & Museum, and the Macrobert.

TIME TRAVELLER’S TRAIL
Learn the gruesome secrets of ancient Scotland and the first Capital City.
Who were the last people in Britain to have their heads cut off in public and why? Would you bid for the World’s Oldest Football and how can we save the Victorian 4 year-old boy dying from swallowing a bone?
Ages: 7-11 years
Booking: Free for 1 session, Drop-in, just turn up on the day!
Times: 11.30am-12.10pm and 2pm-2.40pm
Venue: The Smith Art Gallery & Museum

DIGIKNOW? & DIGI-MUSIC
Have fun experimenting with cutting edge technology to create, animate, 3D-print, code and make music in magical ways you never knew were possible!
Ages: all ages
Booking: Free for 1 session, Drop-in, just turn up on the day!
Times: 1.30-3.30
Venue: Tolbooth, Auditorium

PLAY-DOH ANIMATION
Set your imagination free and bring Play-Doh to life using free, simple animation software on iPads! (iPads provided)
Ages: Families and years 6+

HULA HOOP & CIRCUS SKILLS
Come and get active – learn how to hula hoop like a pro and take part in a whole host of colourful circus skills activities that test your balance, co-ordination and flexibility! Includes poi, diablo, flowersticks, plate spinning and juggling.
Ages: families and ages 5+
Booking: Free for 1 session,Drop-in, just turn up on the day!

GRAVEYARD GOSSIP
A gruesome tour of Stirling’s historic Top o’The Town Cemetery: from grave-robbing to Bonnie Prince Charlie!
Ages: all ages (N.B. walking tour)

Times: 12-1pm
Venue: Meet at Tolbooth Box Office

CARDBOARD CAPERS
Stop by and add to an enormous large-scale city, built entirely out of cardboard! Constructed throughout the day as one big collaborative project, come and add your favourite Stirling landmarks, your house, futuristic buildings or go back in time with a structure from medieval times.
Ages: all ages
Booking: Free for 1 session, Drop-in, just turn up on the day!
Times: 10.30-12pm & 1-2.30pm
Venue: Tolbooth, Gallery

CERAMIC MUG MAKING
Taking place in our ceramics studio at the Cowane Centre, design and build your own mug, something that the whole family can take part in.
Note: mugs will be fired in the kiln by tutor after the workshop and will be available to collect at a later date.

CREATIVE HERITAGE ARTS AWARD TRAIL
/The Engine Shed
A heritage trail with lots of creativity, designed by young people for other children and young people. Anyone aged 25 and under can get a Discover Arts Award (www.artsaward.org.uk) by completing the creative tasks on the trail. The trail is partly outside so dress for the weather.
Run by See Make Think in partnership with Scran and Historic Environment Scotland. Part of The Engine Shed’s DigiFest 2018. #YOPY2018 Supported by Heritage Lottery Fund.
Ages: all ages
