The National Wallace Monument is an iconic feature on Stirling’s skyline and this evening spectacle is designed so that it can be enjoyed by everyone in the area.

Watch the display marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of The National Wallace Monument, and the 772nd anniversary of the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

The Battle of Stirling Bridge

William Wallace’s greatest victory on the battlefield took place in Stirling on 11th September 1297.

The Opening of The National Wallace Monument

On that same day, almost 600 years later, in 1869, the focus was on Stirling once more with the opening of a new monument built to honour Scotland’s National Hero.

150 Years of Sharing Wallace’s Story

This year, the 150th Anniversary of The National Wallace Monument will be marked with a unique evening event – marking the start of a special programme of celebrations.

On the 11th of September 2019, the Monument’s official anniversary, an evening light show will be held at 9:30pm, which will see the Monument lit up in an illumination spectacular. Visible from across much of Stirling, spectators will be able to catch incredible views of the illuminated Monument and a short celebratory firework display. The first 500 visitors will be able to view it from the Monument’s car park, where light refreshments will be served in Legends Coffee House*.

*recommended arrival time of between 8:30pm and 9:00pm.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Wallace 150 are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
