About Wallace 150

At 12:00 noon on Saturday 11th September 1869, 572 years after William Wallace had been triumphant at The Battle of Stirling Bridge, the members of the Town Council of Stirling assembled at the Corn Exchange, and marched in procession to the newly-completed National Wallace Monument. On reaching the Monument they proceeded to 'The Armoury Room' on the first floor, where they were welcomed by a party which included Mr. J. T. Rochead, the architect who had designed the Monument, and who had watched it take shape over the years since the laying of the foundation stone in 1861.

The ceremony which followed marked the completion of The National Wallace Monument, and the country now had a monument of which it could be proud, and which honoured 'Scotland's National Hero'.

The Monument has been proudly telling the story of Wallace for 150 years, and on Wednesday 11th September 2019 you are invited to visit The Abbey Craig and join the activities which will mark this special occasion.

On the day, there will be live performances from bagpipers and Monument Dance Centre, special souvenirs, birthday cake, guided walks to The Battle of Stirling Bridge Battlefield, performances of 'A Battle Won', Braveheart breakfast in Legends Coffee House, and a bagpipe workshop!

In the evening, live music will be performed by Ted Christopher, then 'Reflections on The Monument' will take place - with a sunset performance by a piper in the shadow of the Abbey Craig, followed by fireworks and a special light show illuminating the front of the Monument.
