Plant Identification for beginners: 4 day course over 2 weekends

About Plant Identification for beginners: 4 day course over 2 weekends

This is a 4 day training course over 2 weekends, the dates are 25th & 26th May and 22nd & 23rd June 2019

This new course is aimed at beginners and those with some plant identification skills, who are keen to improve their botanical identification skills. The ability to identify key plants is essential for most ecological work. The course aims to give participants the confidence to use field keys, where to go to get more help, and how to build upon the knowledge gained in the course. Key plant groups, including grasses and sedges, will be covered during the course. Participants must commit to both weekends as the second weekend is designed to consolidate and add to knowledge gained from the first weekend. In this, participants are encouraged to self-learn between weekends. There are limited places available for this new course so early booking is advisable.

We will be outdoors in the field for a large amount of the time therefore please bring a pack/rucksack for carrying your equipment, waterproofs etc. This 4 day course will add to your CV and CPD and will help you gain employment within ecological and environmental consultancies and other environmental agencies.

Field trips will be at various locations within a 10 mile radius of Stirling. Participants with vehicles may be asked to car share with other participants if possible during field trips. It would be useful for us to know when booking if you will be using their own vehicle and if you can offer someone a space.

What to bring with you - Packed lunch and drinks, Wild Flower Identification books, which include keys. As a minimum, it is essential that participants bring a copy of the current Collins Flower Guide (David Streeter, C. Hart-Davies et al) and a hand lens (at least 10 times magnification).

Trainer details - Lindsay is an ecologist with over 25 years experience, having worked as an ecologist in a wide variety of organisations, including Scottish Natural Heritage and the National Trust for Scotland, before starting his own business, Parnassus Ecology. With extensive experience in EIA and planning work, and habitat and protected species management, he also has in-depth experience of field surveys and has been mentoring professionals in survey and species identification skills for over 15 years. He is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

Cost - £270 (includes vat & Eventbrite fees)

Terms & Conditions - The full fee is payable for cancellations within 7 days of event.

While we take every opportunity to ensure the details for Plant Identification for beginners: 4 day course over 2 weekends are accurate, we always advise that you contact the event organiser before setting out for the event to avoid disapointment.
