· Bwani Junction’s rendition of Paul Simon’s Graceland is back by popular demand for an evening at Rock at the Races
· Golf Perthshire Raceday tee’s off at UK’s most northerly track
With the summer season in full swing, Perth Racecourse is gearing up for its next two meetings. Rock at the Races (Tuesday 1 August) and the brand-new Golf Perthshire Raceday (Wednesday 2 August) will showcase some of the country’s finest summer jump racing and provide a variety of top class entertainment for the Perthshire crowd.
The band of choice for this year’s Rock at the Races post-race entertainment on Tuesday evening is the popular indie rock band Bwani Junction who will return to Perth Racecourse by popular demand to entertain the crowd for an hour after the last race. Bwani Junction have a string of sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and look forward to returning after being such a hit with Perth racegoers last year.
Brand new to the northerly track for 2017, the first ever Golf Perthshire Raceday will take place on Wednesday. With the action at Royal Birkdale now over, Perth Racecourse has partnered with Golf Perthshire to bring the coveted sport to the track for a special golf themed meeting.
Along with seven races on the day, each sponsored by a different Perthshire golf club, there will be putting challenges from Grassicks BMW of Perth for racegoers to put their skills to the test between races. As part of the partnership with Golf Perthshire all members of any of the 26 Perthshire Golf Clubs can currently receive a 40% discount when purchasing their tickets online.
Hazel Peplinksi, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said: “We’re excited to debut the first ever Golf Perthshire Raceday on Wednesday and delighted with the enthusiasm from the seven sponsoring Golf Clubs to promote their sport to a new audience here at the racecourse.
“We’re lucky to have some of the best golf courses in the world right here in Perth, and it will come as no surprise to anybody who knows about my passion for golf that it’s Perth where horse-racing has joined forces with golf for mutual benefit. Golf is also popular with a lot of jockeys but trainers complain they can’t find the time to play!”
Alan Minto, project manager at Golf Perthshire said: “The Open championship has been absolutely fantastic this year and golfing fever has really swept the nation, so there is no better time to host our special golf day at Perth Racecourse. It’s brilliant to bring together two of the finest sports in Perthshire, and we are looking forward to something completely new on Wednesday.”
The double-header marks the half way point in Perth’s hugely successful season, which has already seen bumper crowds attend the Perth Festival, Ladies Day and the prestigious Gold Cup. Hazel Peplinksi is delighted with the 2017 programme so far, continuing: “The season has got off to a flying start and our numbers have remained strong since opening our gates in April, with over 6000 in attendance at our latest Family Race Day in July.”
Grandstand tickets for both Rock at the Races and Golf Perthshire Raceday are priced at £18.00, with student and over 60’s concessions available at £10.00.
Gates for Rock at the Races open at 4.30pm, with the first race scheduled at 5.50pm and the last at 9.00pm. Bwani Junction shall play from 9.15pm – 10.15pm.
Gates for Golf Perthshire Raceday open at 12pm, with the first race scheduled at 2.15pm and the last at 5.40pm.
