Join Al Masaar and Forestry Commission Scotland to celebrate Eid in the Woods this weekend in Callendar Woods, Falkirk.
Taking place on Sunday (3rd September), the inaugural Falkirk event will bring people together to join in the celebrations of Eid Al-Adha, otherwise known as 'the feast of the sacrifice' and the second Eid festival of the calendar year, as well as promote the importance of the great outdoors.
There will be a variety of free activities for adults and children to take part in, including a treasure hunt, outdoor cooking and foraging, tree planting, Tug of War, marshmallow toasting, storytelling and face painting. Adults will also be given the opportunity to participate in CPR and defibrillator training with Trossachs Search and Rescue team and visit Recykle-a-bike for a free bike service. Food and drink will be available for purchase on the day.
Forestry Commission Scotland and Operation Play Outdoors will also present 19 young people from the community group, Al Masaar, with John Muir Discovery Awards. Over the summer, 37 people from Al Masaar took part in the Falkirk Forest Club, organised by the two parties. The club completed a variety of outdoor activities including, den building, fire building, outdoor cooking and camping, as part of the work toward the award.
Craig Thomson, from Operation Play Outdoors, said: “There was a great turnout for the Falkirk Forest Club and we’re glad that many attendees were determined to work their way toward the John Muir Discovery Award and do their part for the local community.
“To secure the award, participants had to attend a minimum of four sessions out of the six organised by the club and take part in a variety of conservation tasks, most notably planting 200 new Oak trees in Callendar Woods. This amazing project will leave a legacy of the programme and we are very much looking forward to celebrating its success at Eid in the Woods this Sunday.”
Romena Huq, engagement officer at Forestry Commission Scotland, said: “Eid in the Woods is a great opportunity to bring the community together, whilst enjoying the great outdoors. There will be plenty of activities for both adults and children to take part in, and is something a little different to do in celebration of Eid Al-Adha.
“We encourage locals and people from afar to come and join us on this special occasion, as well as celebrate the success of the John Muir Discovery awardees, who have put in a great effort into helping their local community and environment.”
