Precious Metal Clay Charms Saturday Workshop

About Precious Metal Clay Charms Saturday Workshop

Precious metal clay, or PMC as it is often called, is made up of fine silver particles, a binder and water. The clay can be molded like any type of clay. It is then fired with a torch or a kiln which burns away the binder leaving a piece of pure silver.

This course is an excellent introduction to the creative use of Precious Metal Clay. The course is suitable for all levels it is designed to enable not only complete beginners to produce a piece of jewellery but also demonstrate the interesting properties of PMC to those who already have some knowledge of jewellery making.

During this course we will focus on creating a set of three charms which can be added to a chain necklace. Different techniques to produce the charms will be explored and students will have a chance to set a stone in one charm. Once fired, the pieces will be finished using simple techniques such as burnishing and patination.

We’ll provide everything you’ll need including tools, silver wire and 10g of silver clay. Extra silver can be purchased (at cost price) from the School. Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed toe shoes. If you have long hair please wear it up.
