Trees and Natural History of Dollar Glen: An Immersion in Central Scotland’s Rainforest
Deep gorges, rushing burns, towering trees and a ruined castle, we can't think of a better way to spend the day.
Chris Knapman is an arboriculturist, horticulturist and ecologist with a particular interest in heritage trees and cultural connections with nature.
Join him on a journey of discovery through Dollar Glen SSSI and make your own connections with this special place as you explore along burns, bridges and waterfalls through glorious Summer woodland to reveal unusual trees and abundant wildlife.
The walk will include:
• The ‘Burns of Care and Sorrow’, ‘Kemp’s Score’, ‘Sauchie Falls’, ‘The Devil’s Cauldron’ and ‘Windy Edge’ viewpoint
• ‘The Spider Oak’, ‘The Upside-Down Tree’, ‘The Tarantula Birch’, ‘The Lover’s Rowan’ and ‘The Fairy Oak’
• Tree identification, ecology and folklore; flora and fauna, natural features and re-connection with nature
What to bring - Stoat footwear, participants need to be dressed for the weather, drink and snack, camera & notepad & pen (optional)
Experience Level - No experience required, please note that there are some relatively steep climbs and care is required on uneven and slippery sections. The walk takes approximately 2 hours to complete but we will be stopping at various points along the way.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
