For this first event, we are joined by Ryan Filchak—issue 005 contributor and director of Kentucky based creative hub, Institute 193—in conversation with writer Austyn Gaffney as they discuss the concept of 'creative space' and the communities that these environments nurture.
Founded in 2009, Institute 193 provides artists from Kentucky and the Southeastern United States—selected not by commercial viability, but by the quality and relevance of their work—with exhibition and publication opportunities as they endeavour to help these artists gain broader media exposure and foster connections in art markets across the globe. Their gallery space hosts musical performances, film screenings, lectures, and other community-driven events in addition to visual art exhibitions. They regularly collaborate with artists, musicians, and writers, in an effort to document the cultural landscape of the modern South.
Please note that this event will be hosted via Zoom and will last for an hour – beginning with a discussion between Filchak and Gaffney before the floor is opened to receive any audience questions.
