Get ready for a night of top-tier comedy as Substate Comedy Club presents a special Work-in-Progress double bill with two of Scotland’s most exciting stand-up stars: Some Laugh Podcast hosts Stephen Buchanan and Stuart McPherson, live on 9th July.
Stephen Buchanan, Award-winning, razor-sharp, and endlessly inventive, is a true force in UK comedy. The first Scot to win the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award, Stephen was also crowned Scottish Comedian of the Year. His viral sketches have racked up over 19 million views on Instagram and TikTok, and he’s a familiar face and voice from TV and radio hits including BBC Three’s Cable tied, Channel 4’s The Dead Don’t Care, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club, Comedy Central Live and BBC Scotland’s Scot Squad. Stephen is also the co-host of the hugely popular Some Laugh and What’s The Script? podcasts, bringing his quick wit and relatable stories to thousands of fans every week.
Stuart McPherson – Fresh from sell-out solo runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 and 2024, Fife’s own Stuart McPherson brings his gag-driven, honest, and wordy stand-up to Stirling. An award-winning comedian and writer, Stuart is a regular headliner at Monkey Barrel Comedy and co-hosts the Some Laugh podcast alongside Stephen. You’ll know him from BBC Scotland’s Scot Squad and his acclaimed stand-up specials, with critics praising his “remarkable hit rate” (Rolling Stone) and “hilarious” delivery (British Comedy Guide).
