Writer and climber Anna Fleming shares the journey behind her acclaimed book Time on Rock, tracing her development as a climber on the diverse crags of the UK. With candour and insight she explores how rock climbing shaped her understanding of the natural world. As her horizons expanded so did her ambitions, leading to alpine climbs and an expedition to Bolivia where she met and climbed with the iconic Cholita Climbers. This group of Indigenous Aymara women challenges stereotypes by climbing 6,000 metre peaks in huge skirts and petticoats. Combining adventure, geography and storytelling, this talk weaves together the physical and emotional challenges of climbing with stories from the amazing people who call these places home.
Location: Logie Lecture Theatre, University of Stirling, Stirling, FK9 4LA
