Step into the footsteps of Sarah Murray, the redoubtable 18th-century traveller who toured Scotland before it was fashionable to do so, visiting places few of her class and sex had ever dared to explore. She “discovered” the Trossachs before Walter Scott, interviewed a veteran of Culloden on Eigg, criticised the greed of landowners and saw human dignity where others saw only poverty and ignorance. With documentary filmmaker and historian Paul Murton as our guide, her extraordinary journey is brought vividly to life. Based on Paul’s new book, this is the story of a true pioneer, witty, wise, fearless and centuries ahead of her time.
Location: Logie Lecture Theatre, University of Stirling, Stirling, FK9 4LA
