Psychology researchers and students at the University of Stirling invite you to take part in our study looking at eyewitness identification using virtual reality (VR) to better understand how memory works when it matters.
To be eligible to take part in this study:
- You must be over the age of 18.
- You must have normal or corrected to normal vision.
- You must not have any self-reported history of significant motion sickness, active nausea/vomiting, epilepsy or psychosis as VR may exaggerate these conditions.
If you are eligible, and choose to sign up, we will ask you to complete the experiment in two parts:
Part 1 - online (around 90 minutes)
- A simple survey asking you to fill out basic demographic information about yourself (such as age, gender, etc).
- A sequence of seven online standardised cognitive tasks primarily assessing different components of face processing and memory. These are separated into two sessions for ease.
Part 2 - in person at the University of Stirling (around 45 minutes)
- Three basic vision tests (colour vision, visual acuity, 3D vision).
- The virtual reality session, which includes videos depicting non-violent simulated criminal events. You will be asked to answer questions about what you have witnessed.
You will receive an Amazon voucher worth £22.50 as reimbursement for your time after completing the entire experiment.
How to sign up:
1. Click on the link to our website page - the link to the booking system is at the bottom.
2. Book a slot for the in-person part of the experiment, giving yourself enough time to complete the online tests beforehand.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
