A new Chair has been appointed to the Board of Go Forth Stirling – the organisation which works to improve the city’s trading environment.
Danielle McRorie-Smith, Operations Manager at Castle Leisure Group, takes over the role from Andrew Mitchell who is stepping down as Chair.
Mr Mitchell, who had been involved with Stirling’s Business Improvement District (BID) for the past eight years, will remain on the Board as Treasurer.
Ms McRorie-Smith has been a Go Forth Stirling Board member since last April and was previously a director of the Dunfermline Delivers BID.
She steps up from her role as vice-chair and will be formally confirmed as Chair when Board members stand for re-election at the organisation’s AGM on Monday November 25.
She said: “I am honoured to be appointed as the new Chair of Go Forth Stirling. Stirling is an iconic city and I am relishing the opportunity of helping take the Stirling BID forward.
“I am a passionate supporter of BIDs in Scotland having spent three years as a Director of Dunfermline Delivers BID.
“Although resigning from the Chair position, I am delighted Andrew will continue as Treasurer as he is a valued member of the board and has been pivotal to our progression so far.
“Castle Leisure Group started in Stirling 39 years ago - we have a long history with the city and are passionate about the local businesses in our hometown.
“I am focused on working with other board members, businesses and the Go Forth team to ensure the BID continues to benefit all businesses, visitors and residents.”
Andrew Mitchell has been a volunteer with Stirling’s BID since 2011 when the idea of setting up the organisation was first proposed.
As a local business owner who runs the city’s Kilted Kangaroo pub, he is passionate about the city’s future and joined the BID to help Stirling grow and become more successful.
He worked with the original Steering Group and was instrumental in establishing the Go Forth Stirling Business Plan which sets out the aims and objectives of the BID.
Mr Mitchell was appointed as Chair when Go Forth Stirling launched in September 2017 following a vote among the city’s traders.
He works as an accountant and is stepping down as Chair to concentrate on other business commitments including the opening of a second Kilted Kangaroo pub in Dundee.
He said: “I’ve enjoyed my years working with the BID and have met a lot of great people and made some good friends.
“It’s now time for me to step down and concentrate on other projects and to put my family first although I’ll still have some level of involvement as Treasurer.
“I believe the organisation is now in the best position since its launch and in safe and capable hands with Danielle, Go Forth Manager Mags Fenner and vice-chair David Black.
“The BID was all about creating a city centre which people wanted to come into and enjoy and the team are working hard to improve Stirling’s trading environment.
“I wish them, the Board and our traders the very best for the future.”
Meanwhile, Go Forth Manager Mags Fenner has seen her role extended until the end of the current five-year BID term in September 2022.
She said: “I’ve enjoyed working with Andrew since my appointment earlier this year and now welcome the opportunity to take the BID forward alongside our new Chair Danielle.”
The Stirling BID represents close to 400 local businesses and is run by Ms Fenner and her team with a key objective of delivering projects and services which improve the area’s trading environment to benefit businesses, shoppers and visitors.
Go Forth Stirling operates the city’s Landtrain, was a major sponsor of this year’s Bloody Scotland Festival and recently organised a free Fitness Festival for families in the city.
Other recent initiatives include grants for businesses affected by the flooding earlier this year and a city centre Waste Survey aimed at improving Stirling’s streets.
Go Forth also offers financial support for annual community events such as Stirling Photography Festival and the Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise Awards.
Meanwhile, forthcoming projects include a Hallowe’en Trail as part of the Hallowe’en Festival led by Stirling Council and the return of the popular Reindeer Trail during the run up to Christmas.
