Food Safety Awareness is one of the new topics added to Go Forth Stirling’s free online training programme this month.
Business owners and their staff can study the subject along with Equality & Diversity on the training platform which has proved popular with the city’s business community over the last five months.
There have been more than 800 sign-ups for the variety of online courses since the Stirling BID initiative was launched in April.
Participants can now register for the new courses – Level 1: Food Safety Awareness and Equality & Diversity - and more details can be found on the website via www.goforthstirling.co.uk/online-training
Go Forth Stirling Project Director Danielle McRorie-Smith said: “When we first launched the platform we thought it would be a popular initiative but we didn’t realise quite how many people would get involved.
“We’re proud to have had so many registrations since we launched and there are already lots of people signing up for our September courses.”
The Food Safety Awareness course covers the basic principles of food safety within a catering environment to help ensure any food products sold by a food business operator is safe for consumers.
The Level 1 course, which is comprised of five levels and should take a maximum of two hours to complete, covers Understanding Personal Hygiene; Why Cleaning is Important and How to Keep Food Safe.
It is suitable for anyone who works in an environment where food is prepared or served, those working in a restaurant front-of-house or bar plus checkout workers and food delivery drivers.
The Equality & Diversity course guides participants through the nine characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010; the differences between direct and indirect discrimination and what is meant by the terms harassment and victimisation.
It also looks at how unconscious bias can influence people and provides guidance on how to ensure equality and diversity is a focus within the participant’s own working environment.
There are eight pods and the course content includes: The Nine Protected Characteristics; Discrimination, Harassment and Victimisation and Unconscious Bias at Work.
There were 286 registrations for the August courses, which covered GDPR and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, and more information about all available courses can be found on the Go Forth website.
The training programme is funded in association with the Covid-19 BIDs Resilience Fund – a £1 million funding package which aims to help Scotland’s 37 active BIDs play a vital role in supporting local businesses and town centres.
The Go Forth courses are free to all businesses in the Stirling BID zone.
Go Forth Stirling Business Improvement District (BID) represents close to 400 local businesses with a key objective of delivering projects and services which improve the area’s trading environment to benefit businesses, shoppers and visitors.
The BID was set up in September 2017 following a vote among the city’s traders and runs for an initial five-year term.
