Stirling’s business community is set to welcome new students as they arrive at the University of Stirling this weekend.
Go Forth Stirling, which runs the city’s Business Improvement District (BID), has been working with local shops, cafes, pubs and hotels to ensure they receive a warm welcome.
Many businesses are organising special offers for students and their families for Freshers’ Week which begins this Friday September 11.
Go Forth Stirling Project Director Danielle McRorie-Smith said: “Go Forth and its businesses are extending a warm Stirling welcome to the city for all students and especially those who are just starting their university life.
“September typically arrives with a flurry of Freshers’ activity and students descending on the City and, while 2020 will be unlike previous years, we are welcoming all new and returning arrivals to our great city with a schedule of events and promotions.
“Students and their families have a great opportunity to enjoy our wonderful city and absorb all it has to offer.
“And there are some great hotels to choose from if families decide to stay on for a few days and really get to know Stirling.”
Many of Stirling’s restaurants and cafes are offering special discounts for students while some, including Fletchers and Kilted Kangaroo, have extended the Help Out to Eat Out scheme until the end of September.
The Highland Hotel has a 25% discount on food and drinks for students and their families between September 12 and 21 while the Hemp Room Café offers 10% off for students.
Vera Artisan Bakery is offering 10% off to students - plus any student who spends more than £10 in the bakery will receive a University of Stirling personalised cupcake.
Students may be interested in paying a visit to The Book Nook – an independent second-hand bookshop café on Upper Craigs – which opens on Monday September 14.
The shop, co-owned by University of Stirling graduates Leanne Brown and Jasmine Stenhouse, sells second-hand books and serves toasted bagels, homemade baked goods and hot drinks.
At BrewDog Stirling in Baker Street, students can enjoy a pub quiz every Tuesday evening which tests their knowledge on a variety of subjects, including Film & TV, Gaming and Music, and gives them the chance to win £50 in BrewBucks.
Europa Music on Friars Street is running a Record Store Day on Saturday September 26 while the team at Stirling Gin Distillery is hosting a Freshers’ Cocktail Masterclass on Tuesday September 22.
Students will have the chance to create two cocktails of their own at the event while the Distillery is also offering a special two-for-one deal on their classic Gin Tour for Stirling Freshers between September 11 and 26.
Meanwhile, new students have the chance to `Get A Fresher Up’ at Jeff Buchan Hair & Beauty with money off cuts, colours and extensions from September 11 to 26.
Go Forth Stirling will be promoting a schedule of activities during Freshers’ Week and any businesses who want their events to be included should get in touch with Business Engagement Officer Jitka Fleglova via admin@goforthstirling.co.uk
Go Forth Stirling Business Improvement District (BID) represents close to 400 local businesses with a key objective of delivering projects and services which improve the area’s trading environment to benefit businesses, shoppers and visitors.
The BID was set up in September 2017 following a vote among the city’s traders and runs for an initial five-year term.
