The team is hoping listeners across the area will back their efforts and donate towards their cause.
Presenters Lauren McQuade, Nikki Johnston and Ryan Baker, and Stirling Community Media trustees Lorraine Kean and Grant Thoms, are taking on the following challenges:
• Lauren (SoulKraft Show) will swim three lochs in a day.
• Ryan (Dance Soul Get Up Show) will be walking from Bannockburn up Dumyat and back (approx. 25kms).
• Nikki (Tuesday Show 3-6pm) has set herself a challenge of walking 50 miles a week for 5 weeks.
• Grant is taking on a 15km ‘tourist trek’ from the Bannockburn Heritage Centre, taking in Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
• Lorraine is taking on three sunrise walks up Dumyat
Stirling City Radio not only provides fantastic entertainment over the airwaves, but pre-COVID, also provided a range of outreach activities within the community.
This included silent disco care home sessions for residents, and primary and secondary school education visits giving young people broadcast experience and skills. They also helped build links with the University of Stirling providing students with opportunities for practical experience enhancing employability skills.
The station hopes to resume these valuable outreach activities post lockdown when restrictions allow, continuing to enhance connections and ties within the local area.
Stirling Community Media Trustee Lorraine, has already achieved two challenging walks of Dumyat in the Ochil Hills, setting off in the darkness to arrive at the summit for sunrise. She said: “Our great team of volunteers will be getting active this month to raise funds for our fantastic community radio station.
“Stirling City Radio is run by the community, for the community. We have done some great outreach work in schools and care homes and would love to be able to continue that work in the community once COVID restrictions allow.
“Donations received will help us continue our work and go towards these activities which have brought entertainment, education, skills and joy to people across the area.
“We are an inclusive station providing a great platform for local people to get involved in broadcast and develop a range of skills and experience.
“Hopefully people across Stirlingshire can back us to help us continue our great work!”
