The roadside diner, which has been serving award-winning gluten free dishes, including its famous gluten free fish and chips, for over a decade is recognised as an A grade Coeliac UK Accredited Caterer.
From 15 - 31 October the café will be serving a specially created gluten free menu alongside delicious vegan dishes and gluten free beer.
The menu will feature the café's crowd-pleasing gluten free fish and chips as well as new dishes and sweet treats such as gluten free Roll and pork sausage; Macsween battered sliced haggis and chips; Battered Letterfinlay sausage and chips; Tangy tomato tacos; Smoked haddock kedgeree; vegan Mediterranean vegetable and halloumi stew; and Salted caramel brownies.
The event is sponsored by Goldensheaf, which provides the café with both its regular and gluten free batter mix and Bellfield Brewery, an Edinburgh based gluten free brewery. During the event, the café will be serving 330ml bottles of Bellfield’s Lawless Village IPA and its Bohemian Pilsner.
Warren Kidney, Account Manager, Kerry Foods (Scotland):
“Kerry Foods is looking forward to being part of Gluten Free Fortnight, we were part of the previous event which was a real success. Our Goldensheaf Gluten Free Batter Mix is made only 55 miles away in our manufacturing site just outside Glasgow. It is renowned for its quality, heritage and sustainability. We hope all the customers enjoy this Gluten Free Fortnight as much as they did the last one.”
Alistair Brown, Co-founder of Bellfield Brewery:
“We are delighted that our award-winning Bellfield beers – all gluten free and vegan - are now stocked widely across Scotland and the UK and it is particularly satisfying to have a presence in the Real Food Cafe and to support their Gluten Free Fortnight. The cafe is our go to stopping off point on family trips to the West Highlands since discovering their gluten free Haddock and chips”.
Sarah Heward, co-owner of The Real Food Café said:
“We launched Gluten Free Fortnight back in 2019 on the back of the loyal gluten free following we have established. We were one of the first in our industry to start serving gluten free dishes and we want to give people suffering from gluten intolerances the chance to enjoy a specific gluten free event.”
“I am so pleased that Goldensheaf has come back on board this year and that Bellfield Brewery is now involved. We will continue to grow the event each year and expand our offering. I am really looking forward to it and know that the event is keenly anticipated by those following a gluten free diet across Scotland and beyond.”
In October 2019 during the first Gluten Free Fortnight, the café conducted a successful market research survey. This year it will do the same, the team will be asking all customers for feedback so that they can continue to improve the event. All customers who complete the questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw for a hamper of Real Food Café favourites.
