This June, the Month of Community will see community events and celebrations bringing people together across the UK, making new friendships and getting involved in their neighbourhoods.
Organised by Eden Project Communities, the Month of Community will celebrate the amazing things happening across the UK, from volunteering to community groups to supporting neighbours. The campaign also hopes to inspire people to get more involved in their local area, whether that’s by fundraising to support local causes or joining in with a community initiative making a positive difference.
Jam-packed with brilliant causes, this June will see millions get together with their neighbours for The Big Lunch (2-5 June), with the fun continuing during Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), Loneliness Awareness Week (June 13-17) and beyond, as many more charities get involved.
Launched in 2021, over 15 million people took part in the first ever Month of Community last year. It’s expected that this year’s activity will be even bigger!
Sophie Bridger, Scotland Country Manager for Eden Project Communities said: “People are doing amazing things in their communities, whether that’s looking out for neighbours, volunteering with a local project, or taking part in community groups. These are the things that make our communities special, and they build connections and friendships that matter – so we want to celebrate them!
“As we all look forward to the summer, the Month of Community is a great way for people to reconnect with their neighbours and their community. With something to suit each and every community, we’re hoping to see the spirit of celebration spread across the country this June as we support the causes that matter to us!”
Paul Okroj, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, said: “We know that people have delivered the most amazing acts of kindness in their communities across Scotland in the last year.
“The Month of Community 2022 is a great opportunity to celebrate these acts and to remind people to continue to support and promote kindness within their local communities; get to know their local community, share actions with each other, keep re-connecting and creating connectivity to ensure we reach those that need support.”
There are lots of different ways to get involved - whether you want to say cheers to volunteers, connect with your neighbours, support a cause you care about, or simply to say thank you, it's all part of the Month of Community!
