A total of 1776 certifications have been awarded so far from the diverse range of options which include Food Safety, Workplace Health & Safety, Mental Health Awareness and GDPR.
A further 2506 enrolments are currently in progress with Fire Safety proving the most popular programme taken by 620 people in total.
The free training platform was launched by Go Forth Stirling BID two years ago and is particularly aimed at supporting the city’s hospitality sector which was hit hard by pandemic restrictions and is now struggling with rising food and energy prices.
It includes the Alcohol Licensing Awareness (Scotland) training course which is mandatory for all staff involved in serving or selling alcohol and which can prove expensive for business owners to provide themselves.
Scott Beaton, Regional Business Manager at Monterey Jacks Group, says staff at the restaurant in Stirling’s Corn Exchange Road have benefitted hugely from the BID’s programme.
He said: “The training courses have been absolutely fantastic for Monterey Jack’s as we have a large restaurant in Stirling with a fairly high staff turnover.
“Hospitality has been struggling over the past few years and having this platform takes the pressure off managers and owners as they no longer need to carry out and finance one-to-one training themselves.
“Instead, we have excellent, high-standard training courses which new staff can work through while leaving managers to focus on their jobs.
“It’s important to us that we offer a high level of customer service and the training courses allow us to bring staff up to speed quickly while covering everything they need to know.”
Mr Beaton said that between the different staff sectors – front-of-house, management, chefs and kitchen workers – the restaurant has used around 80% of the courses offered by the BID.
These include Alcohol Licensing Awareness and Fire Safety as a first step followed by Health & Safety in Catering, Food Safety and Allergen Awareness.
He added: “Our managers will also cover courses such as Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults whilst there are other courses which are particularly important for our kitchen staff to undertake.
“It’s good to be able to access such a wide range of courses and we’ve been complimented for our knowledge and breadth of training by officials such as those from Environmental Health when they’ve come in to see us.”
Danielle McRorie-Smith, Project Director at Go Forth Stirling, is delighted with the take-up of the platform but wants to encourage even more businesses to use it.
She said: “The platform has been an enormous success in terms of enrolments with 4,282 courses enrolled so far.
“It also offers our business community a way to save on costly training programmes, however, there are still business owners who are paying for courses when they don’t need to - so we want to highlight what we can offer to them.
“This is a free service for BID levy payers and the platform delivers all the CPD-accredited courses business owners and their staff need via a flexible programme.
“They are courses to suit all types of businesses and we are pleased to be able to lend a helping hand by offering them for free.”
Details of the courses and how to access them are available on the Go Forth Stirling website - www.goforthstirling.co.uk/online-training
The training platform is among the many projects and initiatives established by Go Forth Stirling which began its second five-year term in September.
The organisation supports more than 600 businesses in the BID zone with a key objective of increasing visitors to Stirling and devising campaigns to make the city a more welcoming destination for businesses and shoppers alike.
