Stirling is hosting the Individual Time Trial events between 9 – 11 August and specially designated areas are being set up at key points of the route for spectators to gather and stay close to the action while keeping track of the riders on screens broadcasting the event.
In addition to the numerous pubs and cafes that are located on and near the route throughout Stirling, fan zones will be placed at: The Smiddy at Blair Drummond; the Gargunnock Inn, the Woodhouse in Kippen, King Street, Stirling and City Park near the starting area of the Time Trials.
Spectators are encouraged to make use of public transport, walk or cycle if possible when visiting the fan zones. Free park and ride facilities at Springkerse and Castleview are also available for visitors to the city, however, motorists are urged to plan ahead and consider road closures and diversions prior to travelling. A map of the fan zones and information on how to reach them is available to view at: http://www.yourstirling.com/
Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Chris Kane said: “We’re ready to welcome visitors from across the world to support their cycling heroes for the biggest sporting event to be held in Stirling.
“The fan zones will allow spectators to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy local produce from the many wonderful bars, cafes and restaurants across Stirling as the Individual Time Trials take place.
“For those who plan to come along to the fan zones, please check weather forecasts in advance and follow the guidelines at viewing points to help ensure that this global sporting event is enjoyed and remembered for years to come.”
Spectators are reminded to take responsibility for their actions while visiting the area. This includes being respectful of local communities and disposing litter appropriately. Dogs are allowed in the event fan zones but must be kept on leads and only service dogs are permitted within enclosed areas of the start and finish venues.
The anticipated one billion global TV audience will place the event in the top-10 most watched sporting events in the world, rivalling the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and placing Scotland and Stirling on the world stage as a destination for elite cycling and cycle tourism.
