The BRICKLIVE Ocean tour, launched by Go Forth Stirling BID, features fish, crabs, squid, turtles, sharks and other creatures built from more than 300,000 colourful toy bricks.
Residents and visitors have been entertained by the free Ocean tour during the Easter school holidays and there is still time to experience the trail which runs until Sunday April 21.
The BID has also organised an interactive game which participants can download via an app and dive beneath the waves to join Shelly Shark on her first migration while discovering all the BRICKLIVE sea models.
Children can also enjoy a trip to the brick pit at the Thistles to play and create new models while there is the opportunity to win an Ocean-themed LEGO bundle worth £200 by sharing those creations on social media using the hashtag #BrickliveStirling.
Meanwhile, there are a number of ocean-themed events and activities hosted by city centre businesses to enjoy including film screenings, face painting, board game nights and arts and crafts sessions.
Danielle McRorie-Smith, Project Director at Go Forth Stirling, said: “It’s been wonderful to see families enjoying the vibrant Ocean Trail which has been a hit with people of all ages – not just children.
“The larger models in the Thistles, which include a green sea turtle, mako shark and octopus, have been extremely popular and participants have also been visiting the shops and cafes which house smaller models such as parrot fish, baby turtles, starfish, jellyfish and a coral reef.
“The trail brings important sea life and habitat facts to life in a fun environment and is an opportunity for people to see what Stirling has to offer when it comes to shops, attractions, restaurants, beauty salons and cafes as they follow the Ocean Trail round the city.
“We’ve also had good feedback regarding the interactive game featuring Shelly the Shark which we created to add extra interest to the trail.”
The 13 Ocean Trail characters take pride of place at the Thistles, which is partnering with Go Forth on the initiative, and in the windows of several city retailers including New Look, Blue Lagoon, Let’s Party and charity shop Something Old Something New.
Gary Turnbull, Centre Director at Thistles, said: “We are delighted to welcome the amazing builds from BRICKLIVE’s Ocean tour to Thistles, Stirling.
“Guests of all ages are invited to come and view the giant squid, turtle, mako shark and octopus who have washed ashore in the mall as well as have fun building their own creations at our giant brick pit.”
The Ocean Trail is free, however, there are small costs related to some additional activities linked to the event. These include Go Forth’s interactive experience, supported by the app Deckle, where users can pay £2 to access a game called `The Incredible Race’ highlighting the Ocean Trail sea creatures.
The storyline takes users into a world beneath the waves where they join Shelly Shark on an adventure and help her build the confidence for her first migration. They can also collect clues to uncover where her final destination will be.
The adventure takes them along with Shelly through the city centre to learn all about the ocean’s inhabitants and there are opportunities to share their experiences and photos on social media using the hashtag #BrickliveStirling.
Some of Stirling’s businesses are also organising additional events and offering discounts during the Ocean Trail experience.
These include ocean-themed activities featuring brick building and origami at the Tolbooth on Saturday April 13 from 11.30 to 1.30pm while gift shop Clan Artisan is offering visitors the chance to create their own sea creature-themed artwork which can be added to various gifts. And every child who creates a design will receive a free sea creature inspired greeting card to colour in.
A map and more details about the BRICKLIVE Ocean Trail, the interactive game, associated events and booking links are available via a dedicated page on the Go Forth website – www.goforthstirling.co.uk/bricklive/
