An eclectic range of genres and artistic disciplines will showcase at Central Scotland’s leading multi-arts centre this Autumn.
Among the upcoming productions is Shaper/Caper’s Small Town Boys, which will be performed at Fubar nightclub in Stirling at the end of September. This production compellingly mixes dance and spoken-word performance to explore the escapism provided by nightlife for the queer community during the AIDS crisis.
Visible Fictions will bring their dynamic piece of theatre Up to Macrobert this season. The show tells the story of two strangers who are sitting next to each other as their plane crashes, and as their lives flash past as they face their last moments, they explore the notion of fate and rediscover human connection.
Also coming to Stirling this Autumn is Treasure Island, a new play inspired by the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel. From Scottish Theatre Producers, the show features live music and promises to be brimming with swashbuckling sea-shanties. The production is staged at Macrobert with support from Creative Scotland’s Touring Fund. Also supported by the Touring Fund is Love Beyond, which will tour to Macrobert in October. Love Beyond is a love story. But not a typical one. Performed by theatre maker Ramesh Meyyappan, the show uses visually stunning staging to tell the story of a man living with dementia as he moves into a new home. As events from the past seem newly present; a visit from his wife rekindles their love - he imagines they are young and together again.
Macrobert will also play host to a range of musicals this Autumn. Movies to Musicals will stage their production of Les Miserables School Edition in September, featuring promising young performers from all over Scotland in this rendition of the iconic musical. Rubber Chicken’s Six: Teen Edition is set to bring a dose of Tudor girl power to Stirling in October, featuring a cast of incredibly talented young local performers. Inside Out Theatre’s A Night At The Musicals will have audiences dancing in the aisles as their cast of singers belt out classic numbers from Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and many more.
Ed Robson, the Artistic Director of Macrobert Arts Centre commented:
“It's fantastic to be welcoming so many top-quality shows to Macrobert this Autumn.
