The first Saturday of December is Dobbies’ official Bring Your Christmas Tree Home Day, so the garden centre is inviting customers to make an occasion out of picking up their Christmas tree.
Families at Dobbies’ Stirling store will start the experience with a Festive Afternoon Tea, sharing the joys of the season while tucking into three tiers of seasonal delights that’ll make the taste buds go ho ho ho.
Adults can enjoy all the classic elements of a traditional afternoon tea with a festive twist, including freshly prepared finger sandwiches filled with seasonal flavours like turkey and cranberry, brie and grape; and ham and mustard.
Indulge in Dobbies’ famous festive scones served with a thick and creamy Cornish clotted cream and jam, followed by a tempting array of sweet treats, including Christmas pudding loaf, mince pie, tiramisu layer cake and mini macarons, all complemented by unlimited tea or coffee refills.
For the kids, Dobbies offers a Children’s Festive Afternoon Tea, complete with turkey and ham sandwich flowers, carrot and cucumber sticks with dipping cream cheese, a Christmas pudding brownie, elf doughnuts, mini gingerbread men with dipping chocolate, and orange or blackcurrant squash, making it a delightful experience for the entire family.
Children will receive a Christmas tree themed activity sheet to keep them entertained and get them excited for the festivities.
After everyone has fuelled up, families will get the chance to head along to the potting station to learn about real Christmas trees, alongside care tips and advice from Dobbies’ Green Team on picking the best tree for the home. Once customers learn a thing or two about real trees, they’ll have the chance to sip on a hot chocolate as they explore the wide selection of Christmas trees to choose from, with over 20 varieties available. The choice includes Nordmann Fir (pot-grown and fresh cut), fresh cut Fraser Fir and a selection of pot-grown varieties like Blue Spruce, Serbian Spruce, Noble Fir and Norway Spruce.
Dobbies Christmas trees are sustainably grown in environmentally managed fields across Scotland, where a small growing team at Needlefresh plant, prune and harvest each Christmas tree by hand, to ensure the surrounding environment, wildlife and plants are looked after. Each tree has a tag, with a special code, which means you can track exactly where it was grown.
Adam Veysey, Head of Food Development at Dobbies, is excited about this year’s menu offering and can’t wait to welcome families to experience the Pick Your Tree and Festive Tea experience at the Stirling store.
He said: “This brand-new experience pairs the joy of selecting the perfect real Christmas tree with the delight of an afternoon tea, allowing the whole family to take part in some wholesome festive fun. Our Festive Afternoon Tea is a great way to kick-start the Christmas countdown with seasonal flavours through savoury and sweet delights.”
Robert Paterson, Horti Manager at Dobbies’ Stirling store shares top tips on how to keep the Christmas tree thriving. He said: “To get the most out of the Christmas tree this year place it in a cool, dry place inside away from any direct heat. Use a water holding stand to keep the tree hydrated and check the water levels daily, topping up when required.”
Dobbies’ Pick Your Tree & Festive Tea experience is priced at £17.50 per adult, £11.50 per child and takes place on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 December at 3pm. Please note a Christmas tree is not included in the ticket cost of the experience.
