With just one week to go until curtain up, Stirling and Bridge of Allan Operatic Society (SABOS) is calling for urgent support as ticket sales are worryingly low for their latest production, The Addams Family.
As Stirling’s longest-running amateur drama society, boasting a rich history of over 100 years, SABOS now faces an uncertain future unless audiences turn out to support their upcoming show at the Macrobert Arts Centre (25-29 March).
SABOS President Chris Taylor highlighted the importance of local theatre and the potential impact of declining support:
We have been a cornerstone of Stirling’s cultural scene for over a century, giving generations of performers a stage and bringing incredible productions to local audiences.
“Since the pandemic, audiences have increasingly booked tickets at the last minute, and while we remain hopeful that sales will pick up, we need to feel secure that we will have a strong audience.
“But right now, our future is at risk. Without a strong turnout for The Addams Family, we could be looking at a grim fate worthy of the show’s spooky characters.”
She added: “Staging a production of this scale at the Macrobert Arts Centre comes with significant costs, from lighting and set rental to costumes and venue hire. We need the public’s support to keep the society – and local theatre – alive.”
The society’s latest production features a talented mix of seasoned performers and young up-and-coming stars, all bringing the ghoulishly delightful world of the Addams Family to life.
One of the younger cast members, Grace Rocks (16) shared her thoughts on the importance of opportunities like this: “Being part of SABOS over the past 8 years has been an amazing experience. It’s not just about performing – it’s about building confidence, making friends, and being part of something really special. Losing this society would be such a loss for young people like me who love theatre.”
With an eerie yet heartwarming story, fantastic music, and a stellar local cast, The Addams Family promises to be an unforgettable show. But without an audience to cheer them on, this could be the last production SABOS brings to Stirling.
“Will you help save our society and save our souls? Please buy your tickets for The Addams Family now and be part of keeping local theatre alive!” urged Chris.
