Enjoy Christmas music from through the ages from traditional carols to modern festive music performed on the largest range of handbells in Scotland.
From the youngest primary school-aged children you’ll hear “Where are you Christmas?” from the animated movie “Dr Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," and the catchy song "The Reindeer Rock" from the musical "Crazy Christmas!" You’ll wonder “how do they do that?” when the 4-in-hand ensemble perform while each ringer holds multiple handbells, the upbeat "Noel Nouvelet," "Past Three O'Clock" and Mozart's "Sleighride." The intergenerational groups for teens and adults will perform everything from sixteenth and seventeenth century Scottish carols “Baloo Lammy”, and "Ecce Novum Gaudium" to a very rhythmic version with much malleting of “Go tell it on the mountain”, the upbeat modern classics "Here comes Santa Claus" and Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer," the haunting rendition of the French-Canadian “'Twas in the moon of wintertime" and more. With some audience participation opportunities, surely there is something there for all ages!
Dunblane Cathedral Handbell Ensembles have an international reputation and have appeared many times on television. Handbells are one of the world's oldest instruments - the handbells used today are sophisticated precision musical instruments which produce a beautifully rich sound. And handbells are very much a visual instrument too as you can enjoy the synchronised movement of the glistening handbells as they make music while swishing through the air!
