Join us for a one-day Paper Marbling Workshop, where you’ll immerse yourself in the heritage craft of marbling on paper and fabric. This fun, hands-on experience allows you to explore the expressive and addictive art of creative paper marbling, where every print is unique and the results are both unpredictable and mesmerising. No prior experience is necessary, and the workshop is perfect for all skill levels.
Shona will teach you traditional marbling techniques using a specially prepared thickened water bath and high quality acrylic inks. We will experiment with different methods of application using brushes, droppers and handmade tools, allowing you to play with patterns and colour. With a wide range of colours available, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with various styles – whether you’re drawn to bold, groovy designs or soft, pastel patterns. You’ll have the freedom to explore your own creative ideas, guided by Shona’s expert support. In addition to the papers supplied for the class, participants are encouraged to bring along books of any kind to try dipping the page edges. Paper or hardback, notebook or novel, all that matters is you don’t mind the potential of some slight water damage and of course any accidental dropping – don’t bring any rare editions!
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a solid understanding of the marbling process and a collection of beautiful marbled papers and fabrics. These creations can be used for a variety of projects, from crafting papers and bookbinding to sewing, scrapbooking, and more.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop offers a playful and immersive introduction to the world of marbling. For those who have been to a previous class – this is an opportunity to pick up where you left off and continue experimenting, or be purposeful and achieve a specific desired result.
All tools and materials for your marbling on paper and fabric workshop are included in the course cost, but you are welcome to bring your own materials to try marbling on
Tea and coffee are provided but participants should bring their own lunch and utensils
