An afternoon dedicated to translating personal stories and cherished memories into a fabric of your own design.
Your design journey starts with a palette of yarns as diverse and vibrant as the stories they are about to tell. The places you hold dear, your favourite flowers, or the echo of cherished memories - anything find expression in the tartan you create. Choose what reflects who you are from the wide range of inspirations provided and, with guidance from your tutor, decide on the symbolic colours for your tartan identity. Colouring in your tartan pattern with the symbolic colours gives you the first indication of how your tartan will ultimately look.
We provide a selection of exquisite cotton yarns which makes sure that any colours you choose can make up your own unique design. The mindful art of yarn wrapping then brings your tartan to life, following the same process used by traditional tartan designers, but with a contemporary and modern colour options. This relaxing activity not only calms the mind but also solidifies your vision for the final piece.
With your design set, our weaving tutors will lead you through the process of dressing your loom. This hands-on guidance ensures that even those new to weaving will feel confident in their ability to bring their unique tartan to life. As the afternoon unfolds, your loom will transform under your careful touch, weaving a sample of your personal tartan to take home.
Our workshop is a sanctuary where tools, materials and refreshments will help fuel your creative endeavour. Situated in an inspiring location in the heart of Stirling’s old town, you’re also welcome to bring a bite to eat or discover local eateries for a delightful culinary break.
Open to enthusiasts aged 12 and above, this workshop is a celebration of individuality and creativity. Whether you're a weaving wizard or a novice eager to learn, a loom awaits to become your canvas from 1pm to 5pm.
Group sessions are available, to design a tartan for a family, or to celebrate a wedding, special birthday or even birth of a new baby. This is a unique hen or stag party experience, perfect for immortalising a once in a lifetime event in cloth.
