Do you love mindfulness and MUSIC ?

Have you ever felt pressured in a fitness class ?

Have you ever come out feeling worse than when you went in ?

Did you feel that what you needed wasn't catered for in the class - but instead it was some kind of mindless format - something to live up to - and thrown AT you instead of you being invited into ?

Nia has always taken a different approach - back in 1983 the mainstream fitness industry went one way and Nia established practices such as low impact and awareness - Nia influenced the industry - but then continued to evolve in a different way.

Today Nia's instructors are trained in an empowering - yet deep way, not a cookie cutter way -- and with no 'one size fits all' or super-fast certification.

Nia teachers are somatic practitioners, and slowly evolve their voice in Nia with the goal to bring fitness, self-healing, empowerment and more to those they invite to share Nia with them.

Through it all - we listen to our body - and over time class members (we call them Nia 'students') begin to do so too.

Then ease happens - magic - ease - joy - release and more.

Find Nia - and get fitter, yes -- but so much more.

Your're invited -- start any week -- start at our Nia-fest (many people do) -- and begin slowly and listen to your body.

WHAT IS CLASS LIKE?
We do get sweaty but we don't beat up our bodies. Bring layers to put on/take off, water and a mat or rug if you LOVE to relax on floor at end - or if not there are LOADS of chairs available.
The music is from all around the world - from ethnic, evocative, to jazzy or melodic - no moronic club beats here.
Moves are simple to master -- and with the ethos of #justmove -- students are invited to adapt the move - change the move - so it feels right for them or simple do something else.

The goal is to move 'from the inside out' and let go of judgement.

WHAT AGES DO Nia:
All ages do Nia -- and since we already have 50% of our fest classes pre-booked we can tell you now that at Nia-Fest our participants age range from 30s to 75+. In Nia we adapt the moves - even do part on a chair - learning to let go and do what's best for our bodies.
At Nia-Fest we will admit children over 16 when accompanied by an adult.

WHAT DO I WEAR OR BRING:
Wear loose clothes you can move in with layers to put on/take off. Bring water. At end of class we have a free format or loosly guided relaxation movement section which can be done on the clean wooden floor - this is the traditional Nia way - to allow us free format movement. However if you prefer to bring a velour throw, blanket or Yoga mat (though that is a bit restrictive) - thats your choice. Nia is all about choice.
Ideally Nia is done barefoot but socks with grippers and seperate toes are also an excellent alternative or choose to wear your lightest trainers, please change into a clean pair once you are indoors, perhaps waiting to go into class.

ARRANGEMENTS AT THE NIA-FEST:
Parking is easy - drive up the hotel driveway and there is lots of parking. Enter through main door -- and if its still not time for class please wait in the lounge adjacant to reception. Please note that private sessions are running in the same room (the central banquet hall) before/after our Nia-Fest classes, so please don't enter until doors open or you are invited.

CAN I DO MORE NIA BEFORE OR AFTER THE NIA-FEST?
Yes there ar lots of weekly casses locally and you will be most welcome -- please email susan@stepinwithsusan.com with where you live and whether you want daytimes or evenings. Prices vary from venue/teacher. There is also a regular Wed eve 6.15pm class at Broomhall Castle where Nia-Fest is being held, cheaper in normal times at £6.20 a class or -- on 4th,11th & 18th Sept £5.

IS NIA NEW?
No it started in 1983 in the USA, came to Scotland over 20 years ago and spreads often just by word of mouth. Has a different ethos from the cookie cutter or "mind-less" approach of formla-based fitness, and is even more popular these days as the fitness giants obsess more and more with agressive boot-camp style classes and many people feel excluded or disempowered. Now also "mindfulness" has become trendy (where as in Nia we've beem doing it for year - but we call it 'awareness', or a body-centred approach.

HOW CAN I TRAIN IN NIA? (Certification + ongoing developement)
We have courses once or twice a year in Scotland, and 3 or 4 in the UK, and many many worldwide. Our foundation course - Art of Sensation- White Belt is both a personal retreat, and if wanted a certification.

WHEN - well if you get your skates on from 21st September right here at Broomhall Castle, Menstrie (as it runs alongside the Nia-Fest)....is 7 days with 2 days break in the middle.....its a signifcant personal investment around £1,200 cost.....so if thats too soon.....you can also come along to the Nia-Fest, meet the trainers and plan for the next course in London in March or in Burntisland, Fife in July (with different Nia Faculty trainers - but just as good)!
