Stirling Highland Games is one of central Scotland’s great annual cultural sporting events, welcoming up to 8000 visitors annually. Our transformational event provides a GREAT DAY OUT for visitors whilst also supporting our charity partner as a practical learning experience for young people. Stirling Highland Games can now trace its history back to the Stirling Chapmen of 1818 when the highland games included: ‘Tilting at the Ring’, ‘Foot Races’ and ‘Horse Races’.
Stirling Highland Games not only showcases traditional Highland games competitions like tossing the caber and Highland dancing, but it also offers visitors an affordable ‘festival style’ day out with lots to see and do including a Traders Village showcasing food and drinks producers as well as quality market traders; an on-site Heritage Walking Tour, an Activities Challenge area for the kids; and some Creative Arts performances.
Our games field is located within Stirling Sports Village and offers spectacular views over to the National Wallace Monument, Cambuskenneth Abbey and Stirling Castle. As an approved Member of the Royal Scottish Highland Games Association, we offer visitors a full programme of traditional Highland Games competitions to watch including Athletics, Youth Running, Cycling, Highland Dancing, Heavyweights, long jump and triple jump and there are also several Pipe band performances spread throughout the day.
Visitors are encouraged to take part in our Visitor Races on the running track and our Activities Challenge area is where the kids can enjoy giving several sports a go on an all-weather pitch including mini highland games.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
