Traditional Signwriting with Ross Hastie
Join local revivalist legend Ross Hastie at Central Scotland School of Craft on 14th January for a one day Introduction to the traditional art of sign-writing and hand lettering.
About Traditional Signwriting with Ross Hastie
Begin your day with an overview of the tools materials, and learn to draw out standard block, casual and script letters, supported with a discussion on spacing and basic design principles.
After a break for lunch (when you can take a wander down the High Street and see how many Hastie signs you can spot on the way!) we will spend an hour practicing painting the letterforms we have drawn, then move on to a simple project panel that everyone will paint and take home afterwards.
Sign-writing is a fascinating heritage craft that has seen a massive revival in recent years. Professional sign-writers undergo a 5-6 year apprenticeship to master this artful trade, and this course will give you a small taster of what is involved. It will give you an awareness of the equipment and skills required, a taste of whats involved and your own stunning sign to take home and display proudly at the end of the day.
