Beginners Sewing Summer School

About Beginners Sewing Summer School

The course is intended to equip you with a comprehensive set of basic skills that you can develop and apply to a range of clothing types. Learn how to use and maintain a sewing machine, work with paper patterns, and understand different fabrics. We’ll practice basic techniques on small samples, then apply them to constructing a simple top – a versatile pattern that can be customised in many ways to suit your style, in a fabric of your choice. We’ll take you step-by-step through the process of making a garment with lots of demonstrations and sample making as we go, always with sustainability in mind.

Our Beginners Sewing Summer School is suitable for complete beginners, or anyone with limited experience who wants to firm up the basics. We have a sewing machine available for each student but you can bring your own if you like. This course is a perfect jumping off point for anyone looking to start sewing at home, or who would like to join and of our ‘Beyond Beginners’ level weekly classes to explore their sewing journey further with more new skills.
