Thursdays, 31 October – 5 December
Learn the essentials of hand embroidery & beading techniques with the award-winning textile designer as we explore hand stitching techniques incorporating threads, wools, beads and sequins, to create embroidered motifs that you can use to jazz up your garments.
We’ll experiment with non-conventional and sustainable embellishment alternatives, learning how to use these in a professional and elegant way to personalise your wardrobe. As well as using the beads and sequins supplied, you can choose to use sustainable approaches such as recycled sequins and beads and by cutting / making your own embellishments from scrap materials. A selection of beads and materials will be available in the studio but feel free to bring in any old necklaces or special beads, materials that you might want to use.
This workshop will be chock full of bedazzling techniques. Over the six-week course, you will create embroidered patches and learn how to apply them to add glamour to an old garment, jazz up a plain jersey, add a bit of bling to your favourite bag … the possibilities are endless. We’ll work on detachable patches – a sustainable solution that can be used time and time again due to their transferable nature. You can use your patches to add a bit of something extra to a plain garment, or they can be used to cover holes or stains to repair and revive old textiles. You can even reinforce your motif and add a pin to create an instantly transferrable embellished brooch.
This class is perfect for newcomers to embroidery as well as those who want to improve their skills and add extra techniques to their stitching repertoire..
