Stone setting is an exciting part of jewellery making and can bring colour and interest to any piece. On this introduction to stone setting workshop you will be taken through the steps to creating a beautiful piece of jewellery, featuring a semi-precious cabochon stone set in sterling silver. On the day you’ll be able to select a cabochon from our beautiful range of stones which is included in the price.
To create your bezel setting (also known as a rub-over setting) you will learn a variety of skills and techniques such as saw piercing, soldering, measuring, filing and polishing. We will then show you how to turn your setting into a necklace that you can proudly wear away at the end of the day.
During the course you will also have the opportunity to try a tab setting – prongs cut from a single piece of metal, then folded over to secure an object.
No heat is required, so they’re perfect for recreating at home to hold stones or other non-traditional materials.
We’ll provide all the things you’ll need to make your necklace including tools and silver, however if you want to make a particularly long necklace, extra chain will be charged. You are also welcome to bring your own stone however it should be a cabochon stone – flat on the underside and no smaller than a 5 pence piece.
Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed toe shoes. If you have long hair please wear it up.
Time: 9:30-4:30 with a break for lunch.
Lunch is not provided but you can bring a lunch to eat in the studio or we can advise you of nearby places to buy a lunch. Refreshments provided.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
