Celebrate the launch of SUPERFAN with us on Sunday 26th June. A live music event in the heart of our city centre, celebrating the life and music of The Beatles.
Local Stirling band, Revolver, are going to play a double set tribute to The Beatles. Ewen from Europa Music will also be putting down some rare Beatles vinyl and setting an extra special soundtrack to this Sunday afternoon. There will be a bar available, fully stocked from Harviestoun Brewery so don't miss out on this fantastic event!
SUPERFAN Exhibition: Stirlings story of The Beatles
Creative Stirling are collaborating with Stirling’s Iconic Record Store – Europa Music, to bring together a unique Exhibition for Summer 2022, commemorating an event that shaped the Forth Valley music industry landscape for generations. The Exhibition, which is taking place as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories, has been designed and curated around a collection of Beatles, and other sixties music print ephemera. Obsessively collected and carefully archived over the years by SUPERFAN Douglas Montgomery.
The night when the ‘Fab Four’ played Bridge of Allan has transcended time as a topic that has reached mythical status with local musicians and fans. One such superfan was Douglas Montgomery, with his passing in 2020 his archive was opened showing his commitment to 60s music, amassing the comprehensive Beatles memorabilia collection over the course of his life, that would become the basis of the exhibition, including Beatles fan club ephemera, fanzines, and rare records.
It was on 5 January 1963 that The Beatles appeared on the bill at Bridge of Allan Museum Hall. The gig was one of a five-date tour of Scotland and took place just as their debut single ‘Love Me Do’ peaked at no 17 in the charts. Many Stirling teenagers attended and the team of collaborators behind the project have tracked many of them down.
Stirling’s Story of the Beatles Exhibition has been made possible through funding for Year of Storytelling 2022 from Museums and Galleries Scotland and Event Scotland.
