A imaginative and fun workshop where students will learn how to create a bespoke, one-off ring by making a wax carving that will then be sent away to be cast in silver. Beginning by looking at jewellers such as Felicity Powell and Carles Codina who use carving techniques, students will be encouraged to come up with their own creative design for a ring. You will learn the basics of wax carving methods and gain insight into production methods used in commercial jewellery. Wax carving is a fantastic skill to add to your jewellery repertoire as is an affordable and forgiving way of creating designs. The day will conclude with students having carved the wax ‘master’ for their ring. The finished wax ‘masters’ will be sent away to our Scottish casting company to be cast in solid silver. The silver rings are sent back to the studio and will be hand finished before being posted out to you.
Level: This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as makers with experience who are keen to add another technique to their skill set.
What to bring: We will provide everything you need to start your wax carving journey. Please bring along glasses if you need them and wear appropriate clothing for a studio environment including closed-toe shoes. If you have long hair please tie it back.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
